Choosing to live slowly in this fast-paced world can be a big decision, but one that I promise will be worth it.
With the easy access to everything at your fingertips, it’s so easy to get caught up in the humdrum of the world.
Sometimes though it’s best just to disconnect and live right here, right now.
It’s likely we’ve created habits that are complete time sucks.
Have you ever felt irritated by life going on around you?
Do you feel like you check your Facebook or email a thousand times a day?
Living in today’s world where you have access to the news all day every day and you can see your friend’s posts online immediately can be discouraging and cause you to feel left out.
The fear of missing out is a sickness that shouldn’t be allowed in if you’re wanting to live slowly and more intentional.
Living a slower life means several things.
It means stopping and enjoying that morning stretch. Basking in the sunshine and being thankful for that moment. Slowing down and enjoying your morning instead of running out of the door like a crazy person. Tasting the food you put in your mouth instead of pouring it down your throat. It means doing single tasks and really enjoying those moments instead of multi-tasking all of the time.
Slowing down isn’t an easy decision to make. It’s a very conscious one that has to be made each time you pick up your phone or open the fridge door.
Embracing Motherhood: Becoming the Mom You’ve Always Wanted
Choosing To Live Slowly
Learning to say no.
Learning to say no will hurt at first. It will hurt you and it will hurt others. If people have become accustomed to you being the yes woman then this might sting the first few times. You may even lose a few friends, but at the end of the day, you will be thankful for the time you’ve gained back in your busy schedule.
Eating better and exercising
Yet another choice or better yet a lifestyle change that is necessary. Find joy in the mundane lifting of weights. Know that while you are pushing your body to its limits that when you lay down in bed tonight your body will begin repairing itself… ultimately making you stronger. The fuel you put in your body is crucial. Be intentional about your choices and take care of your body so it can take care of you.
Taking better care of ourselves
This means actually carving out time to follow your passions and doing the things you enjoy. Taking care of your body, mind, and soul. For me, self-care is so much more than getting my hair done. Self-care is intentionally feeding myself. Feeding myself knowledge, feeding my spirit with prayer, and feeding my body with relaxation and rest. We must learn to take better care of ourselves and enjoy it if we are choosing to live slowly.
Choosing love over impatience
While this will take a lot of retraining of the mind and mouth it can be a huge game changer in your daily positivity. Learn how to choose love each day. Choose love when your kid smarts off. Choose love when you see your child for the first time all day. Choose love instead of impatience when your husband forgets the milk. Choose love.
How To Be Present and Show Up When You Feel Like A Bad Mom
Practicing lots and lots of grace
Grace. What is it? So many people talk about giving grace and so many people say the words but never mean them. Give yourself grace. Give your loved one’s grace. Give your neighbors, friends and coworkers grace. Not everything that happens in your life is personal. Not everything has to be perfect. It’s okay to burn dinner and go out to eat instead. It’s okay to leave the laundry piled up, unfolded or dishes in the sink.
Start being instead of doing
This one will take lots of practice too but it’s by far the most important on the journey to choosing to live slowly. Start being the mom you keep saying you’ll become. Start showing the love you talk about. Start helping those you promise to help. Start enjoying your food. Be focused, be present. Be present in everything that you do. Give it all of your energy and focus. Notice the things around you, the smells, color and the way it moves. You won’t regret it.
