Trello is a free project management tool that many people use for business, but little did you know it can be used for anything and everything.
Have you ever gotten to the point to where you want to go crazy because you feel like your life is a disorganized mess? I have and when everything comes to a head it gets really ugly for me. The sticky notes, lists, notebooks, school papers, calendars and so much more overflow and it’s beyond difficult to keep track of it all. That’s where Trello comes in!
I’ve been using Trello for about 6 months now. It’s been an unbelievable FREE tool that has been a godsend for me. I started using Trello for my business and eventually began incorporating my personal life into it. I spend all day in Trello so it was an obvious transition to begin putting all of my home and family things into it as well.
The best part of using Trello now is having everything all in one place at a birdseye view. I go from work to home and pull up my meal plan and know exactly what’s for dinner that night. When I sit down on bill pay weeks I can open up Trello and see immediately what my budget is without having to login to various other websites.
Honestly, it was a no-brainer for me and I think it will be for you as well! You see because Trello is a digital wall of sorts that you can make cards with lists, attachments, images. You can set deadlines and even incorporate Google calendar so if you set a deadline on a card it reminds you on your calendar. You can move these cards around, copy them to other boards and so on. They can even be archived so you no longer see it.
You can invite people to your board to collaborate with you. For instance, I run my business out of this program and I have team members that have access to my boards. For my home board, my husband has access (even though he doesn’t utilize it as much), but it’s there for him to use if he wishes.
Trello is extremely beneficial for the visual person. They even have an app you can download from your phone. If you add something to a card or make a new board it’s instantly added so you can go straight to your desktop and open it up.
USING TRELLO TO PLAN
My boards for personal use include a home base board, cleaning, back to school, meal planning, and family events. This keeps me organized and my life isn’t so hectic.
Our Family Home
Our home base board includes a snapshot of our finances, my shopping lists, tasks for each family member, our bucket lists, any maintenance around our home or with our vehicles and so much more. Instead of adding things to my calendar now I add it to my Trello cards with a due date and it’s automatically added to my calendar for me. It’s seriously fabulous.
Keeping a Clean Home
This has to be by far the most intense cleaning blueprint you will ever see. Seriously, I go through my house room by room and add tasks in each card from my phone. Then when I’m ready to deep clean I know what I need to get done.
Our Family Status
This board is great for keeping track of weekly tasks and for me to place items for our family meeting. Anytime a task comes up or an event comes through the door I drop it in this board. Sometimes I will even snap a picture of the flyer and put it in there as well.
Family Meal Planning
This has got to be my most favorite board ever. I’m slowly adding all of my favorite recipes into this board with instructions and ingredient lists. I hate having to go to Pinterest every time I need to find a recipe and this was the solution. I can make quick edits to the recipe or add comments. I can also copy the ingredient list to my shopping lists card so when I go to the store I can see right there what I need. You can easily mark off what you don’t need and hide completed check boxes so you don’t have to scroll forever.
Back to School
This is a board that I created recently in anticipation for next school year. I have had too many occasions where there was an event we needed to attend or a paper that needed signed and I forgot until it was too late. Well not this year with the back to school board. The great part is the ability to turn on the calendar power up and sync it to my Google calendar! Now this year I will have everything for the entire year in one location.
Trello is such an amazing tool that is very versatile. You can use it to plan anything your little heart desires. If you upgrade to Trello Gold for $5 per month then you can have access to premium backgrounds as well as these amazing power-ups to automate your boards.
There is just something about being organized and never losing my notes that has made me a true believer in this tool. I will never and could never go back now.
